Laboratory-Grown Diamonds

In October of 2020, GIA introduced our redesigned Laboratory-Grown Diamond Report in a new digital-only format that reports 4Cs color and clarity specifications, replacing the previously-used descriptive terms and ranges. Each report will feature a QR code linked to a custom landing page on GIA’s website, offering comprehensive, engaging and dynamic information on laboratory-grown diamonds – what they are, how they are grown and how GIA definitively identifies them. To learn more, visit GIA.edu/LGDR

Laboratory-grown diamonds will be laser-inscribed with the GIA report number and the words “LABORATORY-GROWN” to ensure that consumers can clearly differentiate the product and fully understand their purchase. The new LGDR reports state that the stone was created by either the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) or high pressure, high temperature (HPHT) method and whether it may include post-growth treatments to change the colour.

The GIA Laboratory-Grown Diamond Report includes a full 4Cs assessment with a plotted diagram clarity diagram. Colour and clarity specification are described on the same scale as the GIA Diamond Grading Report for natural diamonds, but do not correlate to nature’s continuum of rarity. The laboratory-grown diamond’s girdle is laser inscribed with the term "Laboratory-Grown" and its GIA report number.

Available for loose, laboratory-grown D-to-Z color diamonds, weighing 0.15 carats or more, as a digital-only report.
