Participate, practice, and perform. GIA Lab classes provide an ideal blend of classroom instruction and hands on learning for developing or fine-tune grading skills and techniques. You can take a Lab class on its own, or as part of your GIA diploma programme.

Through a unique combination of hands-on training and one-on-one coaching, learn to grade diamonds consistently and accurately using modern gem microscopes and 10x loupe. Become proficient in the GIA International Diamond Grading System™ and learn to read a GIA Diamond Grading Report.
You can take a lab class on its own, or as part of your GIA diploma.

Learn the same time-tested procedures and identification skills used by the Institute’s renowned gemmological experts. Along with this hands-on training, your instructors will carefully demonstrate key tests and coach you in quick, effective testing procedures.

  • Develop skills by practicing testing procedures and techniques on sets of practice stones
  • Study the latest gem treatments in the market and how illumination techniques can facilitate the identification process
  • Get to use the microscope, refractometer, polariscope, dichroscope, spectroscope, and loupe for identifying natural gemstones, imitations and synthetics
