Field Trip, Jaipur

Students from GIA’s Graduate Colored Stones diploma program recently visited Jaipur to attend “The Jewellers Association show” and the factories of RMC, Vaibhav Global Ltd, Coloured Rock trading Pvt Ltd, Dolphin Gems and National facets where they were able to experience first hand gem cutting and polishing process. They also saw the collection of gemstones at the Johari Bazaar, one of the most active jewellery markets in the world, as well as finished jewellery pieces at the retail outlet of Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers, a jewellery manufacturer established in 1940. Students thanked GIA Instructor Mohit Agrawal for coordinating the visit.

Guest Session

Mr. Rupak Sen, regional director marketing – Asia, Gemfields conducted an interactive session with GIA’s students and shared his vast experience in the field of coloured gemstones. Besides being attractive, the use of coloured gemstone in jewellery is also very cost effective. The global trend for the decade will be focused on coloured stones, particularly emeralds, rubies and sapphires, said Mr. Sen.

Graduation Ceremony, Mumbai

A commencement ceremony was recently held for graduates of GIA’s Graduate Diamonds diploma program at the Institute’s Mumbai campus. Manoj Singhania, director of education for GIA in India and the Middle East, presented students with their diplomas. “Whatever you pursue at GIA, your experience will be more than learning the subject matter. Industry visit, Bangalore

Students from GIA’s Graduate Colored Stones diploma program in Bangalore recently visited C. Krishniah Chetty jewellers, a company that has been in business for 140 years. Led by GIA instructor Mohit Agarwal, students learned about jewellery concepts and saw many finished jewellery pieces. Mr. Shreyas Cotha, executive director of Krishniah Chetty jewellers and a GIA Graduate Gemologist, interacted with the students and shared his experiences with GIA and how it helped shape his career in the jewellery industry.

Diamond check session for GD batch, Mumbai

GIA conducted a session on synthetic diamonds for a Graduate Diamonds diploma program batch at the Institute’s Mumbai campus. GIA instructors Vijay Parmar and Jamsheed Dastoor demonstrated the Diamond Check device and students were pleased to receive such crucial information about synthetic diamonds.

Field Trip, Bangkok

Students from GIA’s Graduate Colored Stones diploma program recently visited Thailand, a major cutting and polishing centre, as a hands-on learning expedition. During visits to RMC, Noble Gems, Diamrusa, K&N Jewelry and sapphire mines at mines at Bang Kra Jao, students experienced firsthand gem mining, cutting and polishing.. They also visited the splendid collection of gemstones at the Gem & Jewelry Museum and had the opportunity to attend a gemstone gathering hosted by GIA’s Bangkok campus. Students thanked GIA Instructor Mohit Agrawal for coordinating the visit.

Guest Session, Mumbai

Mr. Prabir Chatterjee, owner of Mirrar Jewels, conducted an interactive session with students from GIA’s Jewelry Design program in Mumbai. As a manufacturing, merchandising and marketing specialist for studded jewellery, Chatterjee inspired students with his rich industry experience in market trends and approach to designing in India and international markets.

Campus Tour, Mumbai, 14 July

Students from P.N. Doshi Women’s College visited GIA’s Mumbai campus to explore career options in the gem and jewellery industry. Institute representatives Manoj Nair and Amrita Mehta were on hand to explain course offerings and offer advice. Students toured the newly expanded campus, which now features expanded amenities such as Wi-Fi and a gemmological library.

Industry Visit, 8 July

Students from GIA’s Graduate Colored Stones diploma program in Bangalore recently visited the workshop and retail store of Ganjam Jewellers, a jewellery company that has been in business for over a century. Led by GIA instructor Mohit Agarwal, students learned hands-on about jewellery concepts, design and how the final product is produced.  Students were able to see many finished jewellery pieces at the retail store, and Mr. EswarGanjam, chairman of Ganjam Jewellers, interacted with the students and wished them luck for their future endeavours.

Guest Session, 2 July

Ms. Prerna Makharia, a jewellery designer, blogger and stylist, recently conducted an interactive educational session with students from GIA’s Jewelry Design program in Mumbai. She inspired students with her creativity and rich experience in design, product development and merchandising.

Factory Visit, Star Rays, Surat, 25 June

Students from GIA’s Graduate Diamonds diploma program visited the factory of Star Rays, a diamond manufacturing unit in Surat. Led by GIA instructor Vijay Parmar, students saw the diamond cutting process first hand. They were very happy to receive hands-on learning at the local market place.

Graduation Ceremony, Mumbai, 18 June

On 18 June, a commencement ceremony was held for the students of GIA’s Graduate Diamonds (GD) diploma program at the Institute’s Mumbai Campus. Chief guest Rajesh Lakhani, vice president of Kiran Gems, and Manoj Singhania, director of education for GIA in India and the Middle East, presented students with their diplomas. “The skills and educational requirements are a must for a professional to stay active in this competitive industry, and GIA education helps to learn and meet distinct challenges,” said Lakhani. “GIA’s GD program enables graduates to enter this dynamic, exciting and rewarding industry with confidence,” added Singhania. GIA instructor Jamsheed Dastoor also congratulated the students and wished them success in their future endeavours.

Factory visit, Amrapali, Jaipur, 11 June

Students from GIA’s Graduate Diamonds diploma program visited the Jaipur factory of luxury jewellery brand Amrapali Jewels. Led by GIA instructor Karan Kundra, students learned about various methods of jewellery manufacturing using the latest machinery. The students were also able to see many finished jewellery pieces.

Factory Visit, Dubai, 8 June

Students from GIA’s Graduate Diamonds diploma program visited the factory of AB Industrial Diamonds, a diamond cutting and polishing factory in Dubai. Led by GIA instructor Ziad Khaled, students saw the diamond cutting process first hand. Mr. Anas Bangee, managing director of AB Industrial Diamonds, gave students an opportunity to grade a 1 carat diamond that had previously been graded by their gemologists.

Factory Visit, 30th May

Students from GIA’s Graduate Diamonds diploma program recently visited the factory of Shairu Gems, a polished diamond supplier located in Surat, the world’s largest diamond cutting and polishing centre. Led by GIA instructor Vijay Parmar, students experienced the diamond manufacturing process in a hands-on setting. They were also able to learn about the role of a diamond cutter and the equipment they use.

Industry Expert Session, 20th May

Mr. Sahil Shah, owner of Diamrusa Ltd, recently conducted an interactive session with GIA students on coloured stone manufacturing and the market in Thailand. As a designer, manufacturer, exporter and wholesaler of jewellery and gemstones in Thailand, Shah inspired students with his rich industry experience.

Factory Visit, Surat, 8th May

Students from GIA’s Graduate Diamonds Diploma program visited the Kiran Gems factory in Surat, where they learned hands-on about the diamond manufacturing process from rough to polished – including planning, blade and laser sawing, cutting and polishing. Students thanked GIA and instructor Deepa Srinivasa for conducting the visit.

GIA held an innovative session on how to write a resume, handle interviews and much more with the students from GIA’s Graduate Diamonds Diploma program at the Institute’s Mumbai campus. The “Communication and Personality Development” session helped students understand nuances in the world of gems and jewellery, helping them enter the industry with confidence.

JD Graduation Ceremony, 18th April

Students from GIA’s Jewelry Design course in Mumbai received their diplomas during a commencement ceremony. “Jewellery design is an intricate field of study. Equipped with technical skills and knowledge of jewellery artistry, you are now able to translate your creativity and imagination into a piece of fine jewellery,” said Manoj Singhania, Director of Education for GIA in India and the Middle East. Ms. GIA instructor Sajiri Barve was also present to congratulate students and wish them success in their future endeavors.

On April 3, a commencement ceremony was held for graduates of GIA’s Graduate Diamonds (GD) Diploma programme in Surat. CSGL batch, 24th March, Bhopal

For the first time, jewellery retailers in Bhopal had the opportunity to participate in GIA’s Colored Stone Grading Lab Class. Through extensive hands-on training using actual gemstones, participants were excited to develop skills in grading the colour, clarity and cut of a variety of coloured stones.

DGL Certificate Ceremony, 23rd March, Colombo

On 23 March, a commencement ceremony was held in Colombo for GIA’s Diamond Grading Lab Class. Factory Visit, Surat, 21st March

Students from GIA’s Graduate Diamonds Diploma programme visited the factory of K. Girdharlal in Surat, a leading jewellery manufacturer. As a part of their educational and industrial expedition, students were fascinated and excited to learn about the various processes of diamond cutting and polishing before it reaches the end consumer.

CSJ Kolkata, 18th March

GIA conducted a consumer seminar on “Gemstone Treatments” for the members of the Kolkata Gem & Jewellers Welfare Association. Attendees were eager to learn about gemstones and various other facts on common diamond and gemstone treatments. Mr. Pankaj Parekh, regional chairman of GJEPC in the eastern region, was the chief guest at the seminar.

DGL Colombo, March 16th, 2015

GIA debuts its first “Diamond Grading Lab Class” in Colombo, an important centre for gemstones. The five-day diamond course teaches both technical and practical ways to observe and evaluate diamond quality, and the basics of the famous GIA-created 4Cs (colour, clarity, cut and carat weight) of diamond quality. Speaking at the occasion, Nirupa Bhatt, Managing Director, India and the Middle East, GIA, said that to enter the industry, one should look at the bigger picture and think at the macro level, to maintain the high standards of ethics and integrity in their personal and professional lives as these values would help them achieve their goals in the gem and jewellery industry. Consumer Seminar for Jewellers, March 16th, 2015

GIA conducted a Consumer Seminar on “Know Your Gemstones” for the members of Dehradun Sarrafa Mandal. They were pleased to receive vital knowledge about gemstones and various other facts on common gem and diamond treatments. It was an interactive session with the jewellers as they actively participated in the question and answer session. Mr. Praveen Jain, President of the Dehradun Association, thanked GIA for conducting such a knowledgeable seminar and requested to schedule more in future. He expressed keen interest in conducting a Colored Stone Grading Lab Class and Pearl Grading Lab Class for his members.

Career Seminar Dehradun, Feb 28th, 2015

GIA conducted a Career Seminar for the students of DIT University in Dehradun. It was an interactive session wherein GIA representatives explained the Institute’s various educational offerings across India. Students raised queries regarding the various programs, courses, seminars, and workshops, and were keen to know about future career opportunities within the industry.

GIA Graduate Diamonds Diploma Program students had visited the factory of Bodra Brothers in Surat. Students had an opportunity to look at the different types of rough diamonds and had a first-hand experience in viewing the planning machines.

Factory Visit to Kama Schachter, FEB 23th, 2015

GIA Jewelry Design Course students visited the Kama Schachter jewellery manufacturing unit in Mumbai to learn more about the manufacturing process ~ from designing a jewellery piece to sending it to the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) department, making a wax piece, making a wax tree, casting, stone setting, assembly, filing, polishing, and Rhodium plating to final quality control. The head of design explained the distinctions of design and current market trends. The students also got to see many finished jewellery pieces.

Students from GIA’s Graduate Diamonds diploma programme recently visited SRK Exports’ factory in Surat – to learn more about the industrial side of the jewellery business. In an informative and enriching experience, the students were able to see first-hand the technology involved in cutting and polishing diamonds. GIA Students in Delhi embark into the Creative World of Jewellery Designing

Delhi, 1st October, 2014: A new world of creativity and glamour welcomed GIA students in Delhi who successfully completed their internationally recognized Jewelry Design Certificate course from GIA Delhi. Ms. Pooja Juneja Head of Lambent Creations, a jewellery design studio was present to hand over the certificates and congratulate the very excited group of new graduates. Ms. Juneja shared her thoughts and gave tips on how to be a successful jewellery designer. GIA India’s students from Graduate Coloured Stone course had visited Thailand as a part of their educational and industrial expedition. The students were fascinated and excited to know the various processes of mining, cutting and polishing of gemstones before it reaches the end consumer. GIA hosted a graduation ceremony for its Graduate Diamonds (GD) and Graduate Colored Stones (GCS) batch on July 11 at their Mumbai Campus. GIA’s Graduate Diamonds Course in New Delhi concludes on July 5

July 05, 2014, New Delhi – GIA (Gemological Institute of America) hosted its Graduate Diamonds (GD) graduation ceremony on July 5 at the IIGJ, Rani Jhansi road in New Delhi. The special event was presided over by Ms. Nirupa Bhatt, Managing Director – GIA (India & Middle East). Ms. Bhatt handed over the diplomas to all 12 students and shared her decade of experience in the field of Gems & Jewellery Industry. Mr. Kashish Sachdeva, GIA Instructor was also present to wish the students well.

June 20, Surat: GIA (Gemological Institute of America) hosted its Graduate Diamonds (GD) graduation ceremony on June 20 at Institute’s classroom at the Surat Diamond Association Premises in Varachha Road. The special event was presided by Mr. Jayantibhai Narola, Director, Shree Ramkrishna Group. Mr. Narola presented students with diplomas and shared advice from his decade of experience in the purchase and manufacturing business. Ms. Nirupa Bhatt, Managing Director – GIA in India & Middle East and GIA Instructor Vijay Parmar were also present to wish the students well.

On-Campus GD Batch graduates – May 30, 2014

18 students from GIA’s globally reputed Graduate Diamonds (GD) Diploma batch graduated at the Mumbai Campus. Mr. Vijay Jain, CEO and Director, ORRA , one of the prominent retail jewellery brands of the country, was the chief guest at the event. Mr. Jain while handing over the diplomas, congratulated the students and shared his valuable experience about the changing trends in the retail industry. Graduation Ceremony for Graduate Diamonds Diploma (Mumbai), May 16th 2014

Graduate Diamonds Batch in Mumbai culminated its graduation ceremony at the GIA Mumbai Campus with 18 students getting their diplomas. The ceremony was graced by chief guest Mr. Ashraf Motiwala, Jt. MD – A S Motiwala Fine Jewellery. Mr. Motiwala, a GIA Alumnus himself, shared his journey and motivating experiences in the industry and congratulated the new graduates while handing over their diplomas. Factory Visit to Fine Star Diamonds for GD Surat Batch, 14th May

Students from GD Surat batch went to “Fine star Diamonds” for a factory visit .All the students got to see the various high tech manufacturing machines. They also learnt some of the basic manufacturing techniques and had a good discussion with Mr. Nanjibhai.

Graduation Ceremony for Jewelry Design Diploma (Mumbai), May 9th 2014

A new world of creativity and glamour welcomed GIA students who successfully completed their internationally recognized Jewellery Design Certificate course from GIA’s Mumbai campus. Ms. Nidhi Yasha, owner and creative director of The NY Studio, Mumbai was present their to hand over the certificates to a very excited group of new graduates. Ms. Yasha shared her insights on working with the television industry and the growing trend of semi-precious and costume jewellery in India. Mr. Apoorva Deshingkar, GIA – Head for Sales & Marketing, and Ms. Sajiri Barve, GIA instructor, were in attendance to wish the graduates well.

GD Delhi 20th March Batch Graduation Ceremony – 8th May

GIA Graduate Diamonds (GD) Diploma’s batch culminated recently at the Institute’s Delhi campus. Chief Guest Vijay Khanna, Managing Director – Khanna Jewellers addressed the students and hand-out diplomas at the occasion. Mr. Khanna, who is a BIS consultant to Govt. of India and par of the Gold Council, shared his insights on the diamond and jewellery trade and congratulated the new graduates. GD Chennai 6th March Batch Graduation Ceremony – 22 April

GIA hosted its first Graduate Diamonds (GD) graduation ceremony in Chennai, in presence of office bearers of local trade associations and prominent personalities of the Chennai industry. The class of 11 students came from Chennai and surrounding regions with retail and wholesale backgrounds.
Mr. Jayanthilal Challani – President, Madras Jewellers & Diamond Merchants’ Association (MJDMA) and Mr. Anand Padmanaban, Chairman – GJF Tamil Nadu graced the occasion. Others present included Mr. Babu Immanuel – OKJ Jewellers and past MJDMA President, Mr. Mahaveer Bothra, MD – White Fire, and Mr. Abhay Mehta- MD, Mehta Jewellery. The dignitaries presided over the event, handing out diplomas and offering advice about the gem and jewellery industry to the students.

Factory Visit to Paramount Impex factory Coimbatore for GD Chennai Batch, 5th April

The students of GD Chennai had visited Paramount Impex a Diamond Manufacturing unit on the 5th of April, 2014 in Coimbatore. The aim was to provide an in-depth and practical knowledge of Rough diamond manufacturing process. The trip overall was extremely informative and gave students a practical insight into the Diamond Cutting & Manufacturing Industry.

22 students successfully completed their 7 weeks course with internationally reputed Graduate Diamonds Course at GIA’s Mumbai Campus recently. 09th Jan GD Jaipur batch has its Factory Visit to KGK Manufacturing Unit on March 10th, 2014

Jaipur GD students visited the KGK Manufacturing unit on 10th March. This is a manufacturing unit for diamonds, color stones and jewellery. They also have an in-house kundan, jadau and meena jewellery making unit. The experience was very enriching for the students as they learned the finer arts of gemstone manufacturing and jewellery making.

Factory Visit to Hari Krishna factory Surat for GD Mumbai Batch, 8th March

Students from the GD Mumbai 30th January Batch got a chance to visit the Hari Krishna factory in Surat. They were accompanied by their instructor Ms. Deepa Srinivasa. They were shown around the factory and taken through its various manufacturing processes. The factory has over 2500 employees with a monthly production of about 1500 carats. The students were unanimous in their opinion that H.K is one of the best manufacturing companies in India; maintaining and meeting international standards with the latest technology and highly skilled workforce.

Corporate Seminar in ‘Diamond Fundamentals’ for Khandelwal Jewellers in Akola (Maharashtra)

Fulfilling GIA’s mission to ensure public trust in gems and jewellery, Gemological Institute of America conducted a 5 day corporate batch in ‘Diamond Fundamentals’ for Khandelwal Jewellers in Akola (Maharashtra). The owners, Mrs. Prabha Khandelwal and Ms. Ekta Khandelwal attended the batch along with six of their sales staff. The main objective of this seminar was to educate their sales staff regarding basics of diamonds as they are planning to expand in diamond jewelry. The batch covered some important issues such as the basics of diamonds, the famous 4C’s – from their creators GIA, along with a combination of theory and practical’s in Color and Clarity of a diamond.

Jewellery Design and Graduate Diamonds Graduation Ceremony (Mumbai), February 28th 2014

GD 09th Jan On Campus batch visited Rosy Blue, Mumbai on 26th Feb’14

The batch of 23 students along with their instructor Ms. Nitu Joshi visited Rosy Blue factory premises. The batch was taken to their diamond manufacturing unit and was taken through the whole process of manufacturing.

Field Trip for Jaipur GCS batch, Feb 24, 2014

A Field Trip was organized in Jaipur for the Graduate Colored Stones batch after their course completion. To gain industry insights the 14 students got to visit Gemstones Manufacturing Factories such as RMC, Gem Centre;
Jewelry Manufacturing Factories such as Amrapali, AAA Gems;
Gemstone Trading Offices – Colored Rocks Trading Pvt Ltd. and National Facets;
Retail Outlets such as Amrapali, Shree Hari Jewellers and Gem Testing Lab. Students were very happy with the overall experience and expressed their utmost gratitude to GIA India for making this event possible.

Graduation Ceremony for Graduate Diamonds Diploma (Dec 19th 2013) Batch in New Delhi on February 15, 2014

GIA held the graduation ceremony of the Graduate Diamonds Diploma (GD) on February 15, 2014 at The Hans, Connaught Place in New Delhi. The ceremony was honoured with the presence of Chief Guest Mr. Himanshu Shekhar, (MD – Manohar Lal Sarraf and Sons Jewellers).
Mr. Manoj Singhania, Director of Education and Mr. Kashish Sachdeva, Instructor for GIA in Delhi were also present at the event.
Mr. Himanshu Shekhar has taken a GD diploma from GIA in the past and attended the ceremony to meet the new graduates and shared his thoughts on the Gems and Jewellery Industry. “Most of our employees have taken a DGL course from GIA, as all the retail outlets of ‘Manohar Lal Sarraf and Sons’ deals only in GIA Certified Solitaires”, Mr. Shekhar concluded while talking at the event.

GIA observed yet another grand graduation ceremony of the Graduate Gemologist Diploma and Graduate Colored Stones Diploma Students on February 13, 2014 at the GIA, Mumbai Campus. The ceremony was honoured with the presence of distinguished Chief Guest Mr. Rupak Sen, (Regional Mktg Director – Asia for Gemfields). Mr. Manoj Singhania, Director of Education and Mr. Arjun Pansari, Instructor at GIA India were also present at the event. A Factory visit was held in KARP (Surat) for Graduate diamonds batch from Delhi. It aimed to provide all in-depth and practical knowledge of Rough diamond manufacturing process. It started off with the most important step of Planning and was followed by the other steps. All the students got an opportunity to speak to the company Chairman – Mr. Kishore Virani. He personally explained some of the planning process to the students and briefed them about the diamond business in general. The trip overall was extremely informative and gave students a practical insight into the Diamond Cutting & Manufacturing Industry.

More than 20 GIA Graduate Diamonds Diploma students from Jaipur and New Delhi graduated on July 20, in a special ceremony at the Jewellers’ Association Show (JAS) at the Birla Auditorium. This is the first graduating class from the programme in Jaipur. Prominent personalities from the gem and jewellery industry in Jaipur attended the ceremony, including GJEPC Chairman Mr. Vipul Shah and Mr. Nirmal Bardia, President, Jewellers’ Association Jaipur who distributed diplomas to graduating students.

Jewellery Design Contest ,19th June 2013

An exciting contest was held for the recent Jewelry Design batch at the Mumbai Campus. As part of their course, they developed unique and interesting designs in various categories like bridal, kundan, beaded set, pendant set, cufflink-tie pin-belt buckle etc. The most unique designs were selected based on voting of over 400 employees and students of GIA. Winners received trophies and certificates on their graduation day.

Sri Lanka Field Trip for GCS students, May 2013

The recent batch of Graduate Colored Stone went on an exciting field trip in May to Sri Lanka– known for its abundant gemstone deposits. Over the course of the trip, the students learnt about the gemstone value chain by experiencing it firsthand. Their tour was highlighted by visits to several gem mines in the city of Rantapura, local gems exchange, a gem museum and local gem markets in Colombo.

Enamel Workshop, 17th May 2013

Kirti Shah conducted a workshop on Enameling on 17th May 2013 for students of the Jewellery Design Class.
Students were taught about various types and manufacturing techniques of enameling. Each of the students got a chance to make an enameled piece. This seminar was well appreciated by students.
